Latvia is one of the most consistently productive basketball countries in Europe relative to its population, and the next generation of talent is already taking shape through the country’s top youth programs.
Get Recruited Hoops returns to Riga this month for its Latvia Showcase, bringing college coaches face-to-face with Baltic prospects who don’t always reach the U.S. recruiting radar in time. Ahead of the event, here are a few players worth watching.
Enzo Ābele – G, 6’8, Class of 2026
A 6’8 guard from Rīga who has earned minutes at Rīgas Zeļļi in Latvia’s top professional league while continuing to develop with RBS Rīgas Juniori in the RNBL. A former Latvia U16 player and EYBL team MVP, Ābele projects as a multi-positional guard who can handle or play off the ball. He also spent time at Layton Christian Academy and has racked up meaningful experience against American competition.
Renārs Jasāns – G, 6’6, Class of 2026
A 6’6 guard who was named February MVP of Latvia’s Ramirent National Basketball League (the country’s second-tier senior pro circuit), averaging 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists for RBS Rīgas Juniori. Jasāns has also represented Latvia at the U16 level.
Edvards Jonaitis – PG, 6’3, Class of 2027
A 6’3 point guard for BK Liepāja who has earned spot minutes at Latvia’s top senior level as a 17-year-old while producing at the U19 League including a 38-point performance this season. Finished the season averaging 16.4 points, 3.5 assists, and 4.6 rebounds in a little over 25 minutes per game.
Oto Bergmanis – G, 6’4, Class of 2026
A high-volume scoring guard who dropped 36 points in a Latvian U19 League game this season on the way to Player of the Week honors. He’s been a quality contributor for Latvijas Universitāte in the LEBL this year, hitting big shots like this one that sent a league game into double overtime. His ability to create his own shot has made him one of the most productive young scoring guards on the domestic side this season.
Ralfs Murnieks – PG, 6’1, Class of 2027
A 2008-born point guard for Bertāņu Valmieras Basketbola Skola, where he has earned a role on the senior RNBL roster while continuing to lead the club’s U19 program as a primary playmaker. Bertāņu lists him among their top players this season.
Markuss Tebelis – F, 6’6, Class of 2027
A 6’6 forward who led the Latvian U19 League in scoring as a 16-year-old in 2024-25 (11.3 ppg) and ranks among the league’s top rebounders this season for Marupe. Tebelis represented Latvia at the 2024 FIBA U16 European Championship and won gold with the U16 national team at the 2023 Baltic Sea Cup.
Rūdis Donis – PF, 6’8, Class of 2026
Donis has earned starter-level minutes at Latvijas Universitāte in the LEBL, averaging 9.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game while shooting 68.4% from inside the arc. Donis represented Latvia at both the 2022 U16 and 2024 U18 FIBA European Championships and posted a career-high 14-point, 9-rebound, 2-block performance against Pärnu Sadam in February.
